I just replaced mine as well, as others have said they do that when they reach the end of their useful life to let you know to swap it out.
It should be easy to replace, just buy an identical one (ebay, amazon, etc) and take the old one off. Mine was hardwired - you'll probably need two butt connector, wire cutters, and something to strip the wires with.
