Carpet replacement

I just got a quote from Winnebago to put new carpet in our 08 Horizon. They quoted me 7500 to 8000. Seems way high! I don't know anything about it, and wonder if a regular flooring shop could do it. I have a really good carpet guy that I've dealt with for years and wonder if he could do it, or if it's RV specialty stuff.

Thanks.

  • I tried to swap my carpet out for some sort of flooring. Techs told me that it would gum up the slide function. I think they didn't want to deal with it. I'm still holding out that I can find someone in the future that can come up with a solution to make me happy. Carpet seems to get dirty and it's difficult to clean. Flooring would just require a quick sweep to get it clean. YMMV
  • Just had our fiver done. 400 labor. We found a rem cheap, so a couple hundred for material including 18 feet of edge binding.
  • I`ve done several carpet jobs in different types of RV`s -- Labor cost depends on slide-out`s & such - Lot of time involved removing bed, couches & seats, then adjusting slides -- Always, something will come up that takes more time -- My labor usually runs about $800.00 -- Length of coach don`t matter that much -- Customer picks out carpet -- Bill Willard
  • Get hold of Ernie in TX. I just had my carpet replaced for about $2000 in a 40' no slide coach. He's the best but you have to go to him. How bad can that be? TX is pretty awesome.
  • That quote is indeed absurd. I put vinyl plank in mine, but needed to recarpet the Drivers area, doghouse, and a few areas around the bed in the rear bedroom. I bought a commercial grade level loop carpet and hired a guy who does a lot of RV work. The whole thing was under $400, $175 for 12x12' piece of material, and $150 cash, for 3-4 hours of his time.
  • Ridiculous!
Go to your nearest marina/boat dealer and find a recommended carpet installer who knows how to deal with the small twists/turns/trims you'll find in a MH....worked for me.
