Getting ready to re-carpet my RV. going to use carpet in most areas and hardwood the bath. My question is how do I get the carpet to mold around the doghouse (motor box)?
One thing I'd toss between the carpeting and the doghouse would be a trimmed Dynamat or something similar. This will help with heat and noise when on the road.
I finally re-carpeted by doghouse (motor box). Mine is fiberglass so the old carpet pulled off pretty easily. Used the old carpet as a pattern and glued the new carpet down with 3M spray.
I agree! don't cut what you show in the pic. I couldn't see the pic on my gov't work PC. Security settings protected my GFE from a potential threat hidden in your old carpet picture (being sarcastic). My old carpet had twisted and stretched from the tenacious hold the contact cement had on it. you have what looks like a decent pattern. No heating necessary. Or not much.
DON'T cut it! When you use it for a pattern make the outside ends a little longer. Take your time and work it on. Use contact cement and waxed paper. Cover everything below the first cut with waxed paper which will not stick to contact cement. Lay it on the front edge and work your way back doing one cut section or petal at a time. Push seams tight together and then brush seams with a dog brush or scrub brush to match up carpet nap. Use a box cutter to trim the excess from the bottom edges.
one piece! you were lucky. You may want to cut that piece into 2 or 4 more managable pieces. Try to keep sections on the same plain. Wrapped side-to-side, or top-down, etc. Trial fitting is slow but pays off. I used floppy shag to hide the inevitable small gaps, because my doghouse is very curvy, not boxed flatter like your Mirada looks to be. Maybe 2 pieces for the lid and 2 more for the base would do yours.
