Carrier

Having a problem with my rooftop Carrier AC Air V
It will not do anything at this time,no lights or nothing just wanting some help on what to check. I have checked the breakers. This ac has given us problems in the past and has always been kinda sensitive. Called carrier customer a while back when the little green light was just blinking but wouldnt go on and they said to reset the breaker and that worked just fine. Have the same model in the rear and it works good , never have to do anything to make that work. This AC is 7 years old maybe time to replace, what do you think?

First.. Carrier is no longer in the RV A/c BUSINESS

But try disconnecting both 12 volt (your house disconnect is good enough) and 120 volt for like a minute or two and try again. If that does not work look for a blinking RED led up inside the unit (you can see it thrhough the filter if the filter is not in serious need of cleaning, if it is not blinking I beileve you have a power issue. check both 120 and 12 volt to make sure it's arriving at the A/C.

I have spare blower motor, blower, fan and start capicator somewhere in my basement.

If you end up replacign the thing... IF the problem is entierly in the rooftop unit, ADVENT AIR and I think Coleman make drop on replacements for the upper unit, no need to change the duct adapter or the inner (Ceiling) unit, no re-wiring (Well very slight, will describe the Advent adapt-a-kit) and you use the same controls.

IF it's the controls that are bad.. You gonna need a new one, keep old rooftop as apare.

    The Adapt-a-kit

Consists of 4 bolts and two wire harnesses.. The only "Rewiring" needed is to open the control box (part of the ceiling unit) and remove one 2-wire lead and the attached MOLEX socket and replace it with the matching Advent Air lead and socket. You then plug a "Y" adapter (The other harness) into the two jacks on the Carrier control box and plug the rooftop unit into the "Y"'s socket.

As I said I think Coleman makes a drop on replacement as well. but I did not buy that one, I got the advent air. 15,000 btu worth. I'm very glad since I can only run one A/C in this park (And they both draw the same amount of power)
  • I checked the fuses and they were ok also turned everything off and waited 20 min but it still would not work BTW this was yesterday so spent today looking for a rooftop ac to replace it. This afternoon I looked at the ac and tried started and it started up..wow couldn't believe it so its running now not sure how long before it stops:h
  • Try this > Disconnect all the electrical from the camper/MH including turning off the batteries. Wait 10 to 15 minutes for it to reset and then try it. Had exactly the same problem in the wilderness of SD a while back. Guy was gonna charge me 125 dollars to come from Rapid City to look at it - and this was going to be the next PM before he arrived. Talked to another tech who was busy and could not show up until the next day. He suggested we do exactly what I said above and we had cool air in less than 30 minutes and at no cost. Love honest people!
  • Is it getting it's 12V input? The breaker handles the 120V AC so check for a fuse for the 12V side since that runs the electronics.
