I did just this for years carried the spare in a vinyl bag that I had made for the spare latched to the roof of our bornfree class C. worked great, I never used it. but if I had a flat I had amatching tire to put on. I don,t call GS to slow ,on my insurance I pay ten bucks for road service, call the tow service pay the bill, and turn the bill in. never had a problem ,insurance lady says checks in the mail.
