Carrying Aux propane tank

Wondering how you safely carry a 20# propane tank. I plan on using one to supplement the main tank while parked for the summer but am having a problem finding a way to carry while traveling. Thanks.

  • I don't know why but I just don't like the idea of having a propane tank dangling on the back of my bumper.Maybe because I have been rear ended twice. :h
  • Not only illegal but very dangerous. Read all the posts. Probably thousands of people carry them all the time in enclosed compartments.

Just a passing thought. How long can you do it without it having a problem? I would mount a bracket on the back bumper if it was that important to carry the extra propane tank. I saw one in the back of a pickup truck fall over because it wasn't tied down. Valve broke off. After seeing that happen I strapped my extra tank down on its side in the back of my pickup when I had a 5ver. The experience of seeing one propane accident will make an impression that will last a lifetime. JMHO.

    Me 2.
  • I carry a 20# bottle for the BBQ/lights etc in a milk crate in the storage bay, bungee cords to the wall to secure it. Truck camper has a 5# bottle in an outside compartment in addition to the two 20# house bottles.

  • Hi,

Have a mount made that rests on the rear bumper. Carrying propane inside a closed compartment is illegal.
