Carrying Portable Waste Tank

I answered your mail and 'Blue Boy' questions on your other post on 'the' other forum. :) I suggested you wait on the dump tote until you see if you really need it. We lasted up to 14 days on our tanks and by that time we were ready to leave anyway so dumped on the way out.

However, you just stated you're keeping the house and having a relative living in it. So really...you don't need a mail service. The relative can surely do this for you. You can even instruct him to toss catalogs and flyers.

Leave some 'postage money' with the person. Keep your address as is. He can glance at the envelopes to see if they're important or not. He can just put all the mail received in a box and when you come back into town you can go through it.

If he sees something that might be important, if you trust him, have him open it and text or email you as to what it is and if you need it to be sent to you. He can send it at the RV park you're staying - if they allow it, or we always had our mail sent to: Our Name, c/o General Delivery, City, State. Definitely pick a small town post office so there won't be any issues. We never had a problem in 16 years of full-timing. The P.O. will hold it for you approx. two weeks so just allow 3 or 4 days to have it sent and picked up. We always used Priority Mail from our mail forwarding service. We even did this in Alaska.

I think I use a bit more water than you do. I bring back 56-72 gallons. Of course my water tanks weren't free!

We have an enclosed carrier on top of the towed vehicle. We have a 12 gallon portable waste tank. We carry it in the car top carrier. I do lift it into the Jeep Cherokee to dump. I am actually able to pull it over to the Jeep on it's wheels, lean it against tailgate and then slide it into Jeep.

Nobody would try to store a full portable waste tank in a compartment. The larger ones with wheels are able to be towed with a vehicle with trailer hitch ball. so it can be towed slowly to a reasonably close dump.

The small ones are convenient. When we boondock on BLM land one day a week I usually make two trips to the dump site, one black water and one grey water. Sometimes two black water and one grey water. Bring back water in one 7 gallon and one 4 gallon water container. Then pump into motor home with 12 volt pump from harbor Freight.

One of the advantages of using a commercial remailing service is that the USPS "Do not forward" rules do not apply to them. Since they're shipping your accumulated mail in single new package, the original mail simply becomes the package contents.

Those &^$% medical bills really irritate me. Paper only, can take weeks or months, and some won't allow forwarding. It's truly 19th century. If I have to have services on the road, I make sure to pay up right then, and ask if there will be any follow-up bills. If so I have them call me or I call them.

I've got a 32 gal. that we're trying to sell. Smaller is better. We've only used ours once in the last 2 years and even then we could have done with removing 10-15 gallons for just one last night.

Another vote for small, 15 gal or so, tank. I have a hanger for lawn chairs on the coach ladder that will also hold a tank along with a ratchet strap but most of the time I put in the toad.

As little paper mail as is humanly possible. As shown above, Escapees is the way to go if you absolutely have to have paper mail. And the only reason I can think of for that is medical bills, which are still in the 20th century.

And what about jury duty notices, new credit cards, unexpected bills? We have been full timing since 2004 and have tried to reduce snail mail as much as possible, but a few things are necessary. Our mail forwarder is our address as well to establish residency in FL.

Don't get a large tank, get one around 15 gallons. Smaller, easier to store, and you'll use one a lot less than you think.
