File your own police report also. Their report was for 'their' business and insurance company. You need to file one for your insurance company and notify your insurance agent. He can go out and take pictures for you or just wait until you return. The police don't care when you have it repaired, your insurance company may.
Just a friendly note: Be honest with you I would not fully offer the info to your agent that you are 'spending the winter' in Florida. Just that you are visiting friends out of state this week and can't be there to handle the theft claim.
They really frown on insuring 'empty' homes and I have seen them cancel policies for it. Don't ask don't tell. Just saying from experience from when I told what I thought was my friend and agent that I was going to winter in Florida and he went all insurance postal on me regarding the empty house. :R
