The $1100 to replace a converter seems very high.magnaflow has street legal converters listed on ebay for around $300-$400 for gas or diesel engines.I just can understand another $700-$800 to weld it in place.
A couple of years ago, an off-duty deputy sheriff caught a fellow crawling out from under my coach in a Home Depot parking lot with a saws-all in hand. When the on-duty cops showed up, they searched the fellow's truck and found 11 cut cats in the back. The deputy said he looked under my coach, but couldn't see where any damage had been done. I just chuckled and said, "Good thing, because there's no cat on this rig to steal, and never has been!" The deputy laughed and said the number of stolen cats in the guy's truck easily brought the charges up to felony level, so he won't be back looking for more any time soon. I was just glad the guy wasn't so stupid that he cut off the resonator instead!
