Naio, I was trying to stick to photos from the campsites and the immediate area. But the same Class C in the pine trees can only be repeated so many times. And I thought people might like at least a glimpse of what are seeing at the destinations. I'm glad you are enjoying them. I'll make some of them clickable to full size, which you should do if you have the bandwidth. (Thanks to member 1492 for his posting site, too.)
gkainz, in the beginning, all we knew was that we were going to pick up our daughter and SIL's dog and RV for 6 weeks. (They had to go overseas for work.) They live in AZ, so I figured that given the time of year, we would head to cooler places. That was about it. We thought about California, Nevada, up to Yellowstone, Utah, Colorado....
We decided we better be conservative since the dog has not been an RV-er. But it was all up in the air. So we figured we would see the Grand Canyon, then head up to Utah and see the NPs. We wanted to take 2 weeks give or take for that, then into Colorado for another 2+ weeks. We had no idea how much time to spend where. Even more importantly, the reservable NP & SP sites have been reserved months ago.
On travel days I find that I do have some tension from not knowing for sure where we will be staying. Mostly because I worry about spousal disapproval. :) :) :) But it's worked out fine. If an NP has walk up sites, the way to go is to camp outside the park the night before, (it has been on a forest service road for us), then get up promptly and get into the park and nab a site. Then eat breakfast etc, and enjoy a full day in the park. Plus any additional days.
Now we are sitting for 3 days in an RV park in Durango CO, and one of the missions is to plan out two weeks in CO. So to that extent, we are planning. But we still have not made reservations beyond the next stop. I guess we will find out how that is going to work in CO. :)
I can see where it would be difficult to go down unknown forest roads with your fiver rig. I would say if you can get to the field office and ask, that would be a big help.
We are using Allstays, freecampsites.net, RVparkreviews (which often includes FS CGs), and of course this forum for info on sites.
