Charging inverter batteries off the alternator

I am trying to figure how to wire my alternator to charge the inverter batteries in my M/H while riding down the road. I am sure the topic has been broached before but where would I find an answer to ...

Start at the alternator. Trace the large (usually red) B+ wire-- it will go to the battery isolator. Is the isolator a solenoid or a large rectangular device with aluminum fins (diode-based isolator)?

Let us know and with a simple voltmeter we can walk you through troubleshooting your system.
