We did not get the first two generations of the V-class (Viano, Vito as commercial) in the U.S.
Physical dimensions of the "stretch" Vito are very close to the Grand Caravan or Odyssey, but the van is rear drive and somewhat heavier, particularly when loaded with luxury options.
I've used the second generation when visiting Europe, they come with six to eight seats, like our domestic minivans. The extended model is about the same size as a Grand Caravan or Odyssey, but the M-B is rear drive, somewhat heavier, and optioned over the years for a range of engines from small four cylinder diesel up to 6.0 V8.
Third generation model is all diesel in Europe, 2.1 liter four or a 3 liter six. If it shows up here (Daimler is considering it) we will likely see a drivetrain already EPA certified, with an automatic transmission instead of the six-speed manual popular in Europe.
When Daimler-Benz bought Westphalia 1999-2001, they did not build a camper on this V-class, rather but on the larger Sprinter. We got those conversions through Airstream.
