I had the same problem on my 'C' on a Ford Chassis. The filler tube is too small to take gas at 'full open' because the gas rises up in the filler tube and shuts the pump off. So I don't push the nozzle all the way in and don't lock the lever all the way open. It gives me a chance to use their bathroom facilities instead of mine. :)
Most places it's posted that someone must keep the nozzle in sight at all times while filling.
