I tend to be of the opinion that any tire that is DOT approved is generally safe to use within its ratings, regardless of brand. I also have not made much study of the matter.
DrewE and I have similar thoughts.
Stories are told of how well tires performed, followed by stories how bad the same brand was. Some motor homes are driven exclusively on paved surfaces while others go off the beaten path where the tires get beat up and over-stressed. Some motor homes are so heavy that they require the entire 80 psi while others require less psi. Then there are the comments about how much better their new tires are which is not valuable input to me because every new tire will feel better than every tired out old & hardened unevenly worn tire.
There are people who are "Brand" followers. I say that's works for them and the company they endorse. But as for me, when it's time to buy new tires for our motor home, I'm buying those half price Sumitomo load range "E" M&S tires because I agree with what DrewE said.
I've had my eye on those Sumitomos for months now. I may soon replace my two front tires but will first rotate them to see if I can cancel out a cyclic vibration (a steady cadence to it) in the steering wheel. My fronts are scalloped, I suspect from so many miles driven in side-wind blasting, and my Koni RV Shocks adjusted to "heavy load" still allow for a little up/down motion up front. There is still plenty of thread to get them shaved, and they also look great with no side-wall cracks or other issues, but being the fronts and considering their age, I'll replace them.
