I'm still trying to rectify why Tiffin has the sumo springs as standard equipment unless there is real improvement in the ride.
They are a $1600 option, not standard. Why do motorhomes have any option? Because people want it...
I am not saying Sumo don't work, I just think people have misconceptions about what a helper spring does, same with aftermarket airbags.
These springs are in parallel with the leafs, they are adding spring rate to the leafs, therefore they cannot make the ride softer, but a stiffer ride may be "better" to you.
Body roll is helped by stiffer suspension but obviously harsher on bumps. Sway bars are also basically helper springs but they only add spring rate when the axle is not level with frame, controlling roll more specifically than a Sumo which just adds spring rate all the time.
True suspension upgrades than can make for a softer ride on the F53 are say Kelderman air or Morryde rubber shackle. However the sway bar is still used to control body roll.
