  • In my short (2yrs) I have come to the following opinions:

Class C generally have lower roof height than Class A.

Class A generally have more generous floor plan size due to longer length and are a bit more comfortable.

Class C are somewhat easier to maneuver due to shorter length and lower height.

My 24 foot Class C gets 15 MPG on diesel, yours may vary.

Class A most certainly have more than one slide, sometimes three and have lotsa floor space when parked.

Class A will probably have a much bigger towing capacity than Class C.

More Class A than Class C that I have observed have a auto-deployable satellite antenna.

Thare are Class A that cost close to 1 Million USD. No Class C that I ever saw even comes close to that. I surmise that you are not looking for the upper cost level.

I believe that Class A gassers are generally less available than Class A diesel which are mostly pushers (DP).

Class C come with many chassis sources including Ford, Chevrolet, Mercedes Benz/Dodge (see Sprinter), and probably others.

Personal experience: Noise is not objectionable even with a front engine, it has good pulling power up hills even when towing. M-B does require use of certain approved oils and such.

Since I suspect your are rather new at this since you asked about this, I urge you to look at floor plans of prospective units as this will give you the best experiences IMHO.

Just added this: Class A definitely have more storage apace in the basement than Class C.

Happy trails and the best of luck to you in finding your rig. I hope it is as close to perfect for you.
  • ClassC diesels are very rare and owners complain not only about the noise, but also about finding a service that want to deal with them.
I am exited about SuperC, but never did own one.
I think they deliver extreme reliability coming from commercial designs, are way safer in accidents than even higher-priced Class A and can tow 40,000 lb.
That is my theoretical research, not the real experience.
  • Class A diesel is very quiet, at least mine is. We've had gas for about 40 years and the diesel make a great deal of difference. Quieter, smoother ride. But it is really all about the floor plan, and in the past, for many reasons, the Class A had the best floorplan for our family's needs. One thought about a Class C. Sit in the cab and then maneuver out of both seats and walk to the back. Now think about doing this procedure after driving for 2 hours and wanting to stop for a rest. At my age, with my back and knees I cannot easily get out of the cab and exit into the coach.
Best to you and yours, and Happy Trails.

Diesels are available in class A and C (and Super C).

Do you know any of your requirements (floor plan, length, towing capacity, budget, new or used, planned usages -part time or full time, towing etc)

If your only concern is mileage, yes diesels do get a bit less MPG and cost slightly more to operate, but the trade-off is that you usually get higher end finishes, greater towing capacity and overall great reliability and generally better handling/ride due to the airbags.
I get roughly 7-8 MPG on my 2003 DSDP.

Let us know more of what you want:B.

On the class A side diesels get as good and usually better than gassers fuel mileage wise from my experiences and are way higher quality wise
