Class A to Class C

Am considering a change from my 5th wheel to a class c or class a. Like the compact size of the class c and do not need as much room as we had in the fiver. Just wondering how many class a owners switched to a class c. Class c appears to be easier to maintain much like a truck for routine things.
Thank You

  • TT's seem to make more sense if you'll be one spot for a couple days or longer and you can get out and explore with the tow vehicle.

Conversely, as Bordercollie mentioned, if you have a big A in a nice RV park, you get around in your toad.

C's are fantastic for people constantly on the move. Just park and sleep. We're really enjoying ours for our two preteens and their friends as we have a lot of sleeping options. Passengers also have more space than in typical tow vehicles.
  • A lot depends on your current motorhoming needs and habits, home parking arrangements. A's seem to suit many mature couples who stay in nice RV parks, People with kids like the overhead bed (for kids), and a rear bedroom for Mom and Pop plus cabinet storage space and cargo bay of 27foot+ Class C's.Youthful outdoorsy types seem to like short class C's for rustic back country camping. B+ rigs are quite popular with mature couples. Addition of slides adds more interior space but more weight and potential mechanical problems. So it's a matter of camping/touring styles, "taste" and convenience of both man (and) wife. No rig is "perfect", for your changing needs, it's a bunch of compromizes. You will get hundreds of personal opinions.
  • We made the change 2 years ago. We had a 30' 5er with 2 slides, and now we have a 29' B+ with 3 slides. On the minus side of the class C, since part of the 29' is cabin area, the living area is smaller than our 5er. We find the living room clearly large enough for the 2 of us + on 50lb dog. The bedroom is smaller and the shower is smaller (we had a tub/shower in our 5er). The biggest minus is the lack of counter space in the kitchen. On the plus side, it is much easier to set up and tear down, ie, no truck to engage or disengage. The same is true for any require service, just hop in and drive away.

    hope this helps
