Class A's with PTO?

I have been looking at some advertisements for used class A's. Some of them are listed as having a PTO? I am assuming that that means a Power Take Off, but I am not sure. Just what is it and what does it do for you? Thanks for all replies. Gary

  • As Wolfe10 explained, Country Coach used the Allison PTO (yes, Power Take-Off) to mount the hydraulic pump for the power steering and the radiator cooling fans. Failures happened often enough with the dry set-up they used, causing a lot of that owners to replace the dry set-up with a lubricated (wet) spline. Some folks have had luck with keeping the splines greased regularly. Having the change-over done is a good selling point for those selling their 2005 and newer Country Coaches.
  • The PTO drives the Fan on a side radiator coach .. It may drive other accessories but I'm not sure . I'm sure someone who Knows will chime in.
  • With the Power Take Off setup they can also power a mower and drive the side of the roads and mow as they travel.
No, seriously, they don't have a power take off but I have no idea as to what a PTO is on a MH.
  • It is not uncommon to drive a hydraulic pump off a PTO on the Allison transmission.

Country Coach, for example. But ran into real issues because they failed to design in lubrication for the splines of the pump. Just do a Google for "Country Coach Wet Kit"
