As a family we love our 31C floorplan, which is similar across a lot of manufacturers. We just went poking around at new rigs and looked at nearly the same floorplan because we like it so much. Plenty of room to sit and hang out on rainy days, plenty of sleeping space if friends come along.
The mods on our list (a big reason we looked at new, since the list keeps growing):
- Full body paint (our decals in the front look terrible)
- A couple more overhead vents (we dry camp a lot and would love a vent fan in the bedroom and near the galley)
- Air springs (this one DH wants, I really don't have a problem with the ride)
- Rear view camera - we use a fresnel lens on the rear window and it works great, however I'd love to tint our back window like the rest of the windows and I'm afraid that I won't be able to see out as well.
- A turn-around passenger cab seat.
- Ours is also in need of some bits of body work - definitely keep an eye out for delamination and dings in the fiberglass (one we put in on our own, a couple were a previous owner)
I do wish we would have gone maybe a year newer since the chassis would be updated. But honestly, I'm not sure if I wish that just because I read that we should. We don't have handling issues or anything like that, it simply isn't the latest and greatest.
All that said, the new unit we looked at just wasn't as sturdy feeling as ours. We could tell that they cut corners to hit the price point with the new one, so we decided to save our money and put it to the mods and maintenance. She may not be as pretty on the outside nor have the latest in interior finishes, but the quality and durability are more important to us.
