Hi JeepGuy:
Before looking at options, check out the structural integrity of the RV you are considering. Does it leak? Check areas around the windows, front over-cab area, internal closet areas, and others to make sure there is no water leakage. Sniff to determine if there is any mildew. Be wary if all you can smell is fabreeze or the like that hide odors.
With respect to slides, it's a personal decision. Some like them a great deal, others don't care. We don't have them and don't miss them. For us, the slide is something else to break down and they subtract from your OCCC. You might want to consider how you will be using the RV the most. If you like to travel the slides aren't as useful, i.e., you can't put them out while going down the road. But, if you like to go to local spots and hang out for a few days or weeks, slides might be more enjoyable.
In terms of stuff we have but wished we didn't I present the manually operated sat. dish. Our rig was a floor model, so we weren't able to pick and choose the options. We bought our rig to travel and enjoy the outdoors and places we haven't been to before. The very last thing I want to do when traveling is to watch TV. I can do that at home. On crappy weather days, I can put in a DVD if there is nothing else to do. I can even hook up to cable TV if I want, so why a Sat. dish? It's nothing but a PITA eyesore and adds extra weight.
One option that I would have considered if ordering a unit is an electric step. I know that it adds un-needed complexity to the rig, but I had back surgery a number of years ago, and I like to avoid any unnecessary bending and lifting.
Good luck on your search. Bob
