I've had both and both have pros and cons. Towing isn't really a lot of trouble and you don't always have to unhitch for an overnight stay. You can back your trailer into a site whereas, if you tow a 'toad' with a MH, you must detach it to back up.
My Born Free Class C was a Ford E450 Super Duty and, yes, it handled rather badly, although I got used to its quirks. I often towed my Honda CR-V, which towed very nicely. My current small Class C on a Silverado chassis is a dream to drive and it's small enough I don't need a 'toad' at all. My Tiger is perfect for me.
Economically speaking, a truck and trailer are probably your best value and the most versatile setup. I would recommend a Chevy Silverado truck and a small trailer. Once you get properly equipped, you will find towing to be easier than you expected.
