We had 2 TTs before and have now migrated to a Class C. In reading your original post, your circumstances are different from us. You have kiddos and therefore are most likely much younger than us. I also have a disability which added to why we went with a Class C. Here's my input having owned both.
Having a truck that you can separate and go touring or drive to the beach is a big plus with an TT. The truck can double as a second vehicle even when not towing. If you go this route, be sure to get a big enough truck to tow safely and you will learn how to drive it. Towing requires more attention but isn't particularly daunting if you have a good set-up. With a family you would need to get a pretty big Class C or be prepared for very close quarters when going to bed at night or on rainy days. TTs would provide better separation for more comfortable living. One of the reasons why we made the switch was because set-up and take down was difficult for me with the lifting of the sway bars and the bending and stooping to get the thing level. When I was younger and without my issues, it wasn't that big of a deal. Yes it does take a little longer but not that much longer.
TTs are a lot less expensive but when you factor in the cost of a truck it is pretty much a wash. But, you can use the truck as a second vehicle where a Class C will just be a rock in the driveway when you aren't camping.
So why did I buy a Class C? My situation is different from yours. I needed the easier set-up and drive-ability a small Class C provides. Only you can decide what your needs are.
