A "Class C vs TT/5'er" also depends upon the camping areas you go to.
We live and RV mostly out West, so many of the camping spots we find ourselves in are beautiful destinations in themselves. As such, we have no need or desire to run around to somewhere else, using the camping spot merely as a home base. Some of our camping spots are even remote boondocking locations where towing anything going to/from them would be a nuisance. That's what "RV camping" means to us .... find a great spot and set up a semi-permanent camp using a single self-propelled and self-contained vehicle to out of .... hike, take photos, bird watch, rock hound, night-sky watch, fly kites, fish, roast hot dogs/marshmallows around an evening fire, etc.. That camping spot with it's RV then becomes our temporary and sole destination.
However, our Class C is a small one, since we're retired with just the two of us and a small dog - so we can easily get into a whole bunch of beautiful camping spots that as much as possible are not crowded. For what it's worth, we had no problem buzzing around Yellowstone in the prime summer season in our small Class C. I would have hated having to be towing something in Yellowstone on the clogged roads just trying to get to our camping spot on the first day and leaving our camping spot on the last day.
I'm curious, in the good old days decades ago did families tent camp out of their family vehicle by setting up their tent based camp and then run around in the car? Or did they primarily stay put in the camping spot and enjoy it for what it was until the time came to leave? The latter is what we used to do when I was kid in Michigan.
