Are you sure phone connections are rare, even in the city? Or was it only rare in your experience in the more remote areas that you usually camped at? Also, do you know why cable internet wasn't an option? I guess I'll figure this out myself when I find some places I might want to camp at and see what the local cable and phone companies have to say. I'm going to have to make this a priority since researching everything else will be a waste of time if what you guys are saying is true.
Fort Wilderness in Disney World allows you to borrow a Cable Modem from them and hook it up at your site which provides free internet to your site that way. That's the only campground I've ever been to that offers that option.
We've only ever stayed at 1 campground that had phone service, that's our seasonal campground. The lines are all still there, but none are active. The best you'd do with a phone line anyway is maybe 6 Mbps. Even if the service were available, I think you'd find it difficult to get service for 1 month.
Comcast/Xfinity rarely does anything without a 1 or 2 year commitment. I don't see them running cable and setting up any type of service for a 1 month stay in a campground. You should probably call campgrounds in and around the areas you are looking to stay to see if they would allow it. Then you should contact the cable company in those areas and see if they can provide it.
I was always under the assumption that we could take our cable modem with us, hook it up to park cable and we'd be set, but we haven't stayed at a park that offers cable in many years to try it out. It might be worth contacting your current internet provider to see if there are options available to you.
At one time, HughesNet offered a Satellite Internet option with a rooftop mounted dish. If it is still a product they offer, it might be your best bet.
