ClassB or C?

We have a sprinter based class b+ .That what it is called .Its really a C has lot of room .sleeps 6.The MB run good with the diesel we some time tow a smart.We like the space but would like to go back to the Roadtrek we had before it burnt up.For traveling cross county we liked it.for going out and staying some place for a week or two the B+is better .But we like to travel so its going on the block.So good luck picking the right one for you .Think it out before you buy.Have a good day AL

My 'B' is a 1999 \Okanagan on a Ford E 250 chasis. It's the same basic layout as many 90's 'B's including Airstream, GWV, Holidaire, Coachmen and some others. It has the high top with bed over the cab.

Montreal, Toronto and DC- 3 wonderful cities in which to drive a large vehicle!
If you are going to be driving in the central areas- imagine driving a ryder truck...that's about the size of many C's

doable? if so- then get a C, you get a better cost per square foot.

be aware that a large vehicle may not be allowed in some areas of DC for security reasons- ( and any vehicle with propane may not be allowed in certain areas such as tunnels)

the advantage of a B is always: parking, ease of driving and MPG- the cost per square foot is high.
there are different interior configurations- we got the one that has 2 seats- there are 2 of us.

you'll do well to just look around and see what appeals to you.

We have a 170 class B. A couple of long weekends a year or a week we take our 44 year old daughter and her 12 year old. She brings a small tent, sleeping bags. They sit at the table when we are on the road playing games and watching out the window. Takes 2 minutes to set up the tent. Works great for us. You don't need a great big box to travel comfortably. More is not better.

I'll put a vote in for a stealth B. How often will you realistically be taking grandkids along vs touring yourselves? Do you plan on touring along the crowded/18' parking US Eastern coastline much? We all have our priorities, but I rather deal with tight house for 1-2 weeks vs storing/driving a big one for 50-51 weeks.

I've slept 4 (3 beds, 1 air mattress/sleeping bag in the aisle), and had seated dinner for 8 (rain @ tailgate party) in my RT170P before. Sure it's tight.. certainly wouldn't want to do all the time, but a week or two a year is doable and can be fun for kids in a submarine logistics/efficiency kinda way. A tent outside can also be fun for the kids to sleep in and a video gaming machine plugged into your TV can occupy them for hours - silent and unmoving in single back seat. Even my smallest B can be split into two living/dining/sleeping areas using the shower curtain.

I love using my 170 like a second car, especially for the day trips and taking our dog anywhere. For me, a C class would sit in storage most of the time only use for multi-day trips. Early 60s is still young... go for agility!

(Then again, I never grew out that childhood fascination with compact/folding/versatile/multi-purpose things and am keeping my eye on the Tiny House movement.)

Sseat belts for 4, dinette, dry bath with tub, and a 34 " ccloset. Kitchen has 3B with oven, Microwave, bar sink and over 2 feet of counter space. with o'head cabinets all around. I'm now staying in it for 3 months in Florida. I'm alone now but I don't hesitate to take another couple on trips.

We have had three Cs and three Bs over the years. We miss our B for its convenience, parking ease, mileage, quality, etc. We had marvelous service out of all three of our Bs and they are simply better built than most Cs.

Anyway you cut it, a B is a van and a C is a truck and both drive like what they are....van or truck.

We love our C we own now because we boondock for extended periods of time. As soon as that phase of thinking we are pioneers is over, we will return to B World and tour the country.

Personally, I cannot imagine being in a true B with a couple of kids. Small Cs can work for that purpose, but boy it is still challenging. Couples can cope well with the reduced size of a B and can have a ball traveling. If you truly think you will be traveling with more than two people in the front two seats, I suspect you will be more happy with a C. That said, we spent as much as two weeks at a time touring and staying in national or state parks, BLM sites, etc in our previous Bs and were not offended by the closeness. But it was only the two of us.

I will never be as happy driving a C as I was driving a B. True Confession.

I really like my class B. Easy to drive, 18 - 20 mpg, but it's just my wife and I. Seat belts 7 but only sleeps 2. Overnights with the grandchildren is out.
