Before leaving the camp site, I pour about 5 gallons of water down the toilet. The water gets "swooshed" around on the way to the dump station. The extra 5 gallons help flush the black tank.
I then our another 5 gallons down the toilet and drive home with the water "swooshing" around. It also helps break down any solids that may not have been flushed away.
I've never had a black tank issue and have learnt not to throw items like baby wipes into the tank.
My normal routine is to hook a water hose to my black tank rinse connection, allow it to fill the black tank to about half full prior to opening the black tank slide valve. After the black tank is empty I close the black tank slide valve, then open the grey water tank slide valve, when it is empty, I close its valve and open the black tank again, when it is empty again, I close the slide valve and allow the rinse water to add a few gallons fresh water then shut off the flushing water, close all valves and stow all the hoses. Then add chemical to the tank.
