X2 My mechanic told me he needed to put some kind of teflon preparation that is only available from Ford in my driveline spline. I was skeptical, except that I really trust this guy, and he got his start as a Ford mechanic and only drives Fords. I said, "OK." To my amazement it completely fixed the clunk, which happened just as I was starting up and just as I was stopping.
Don't know if this is your problem, but if it is, the problem is fixable and relatively inexpensive (under $100).
