If it beeps every 30 to 60 seconds, with mine that means it needs to be replaced.
As Coyote74 mentioned, on mine there is a small plastic pin that has to be removed so it can be turned.
On mine there was a sticker that said it should be replaced after a date that was five years after it was built. It lasted just about five years before the internal sensor died.
