Mine lifts out of the holder, But the battery cover is on the front, SMOKE detector comes off the way you cite (Turn a bit)
ITEM, it does not turn far, only a couple degrees. it may be it's already in the "Unlocked" position and all you need do is remove it from the bracket.
The holes in the Detector are common "Key hole" shaped screw mounts,, very slight turn needed to release.
