Have a 2005 Cross County 354MBS for 9 years and love it. Average at least 1 trip a month over 8 months each year and have had no major problems to date. Have experience with Fleetwood, Newell, Winnebago, and Holiday Rambler and in my honest opinion, they all build RV's with similar materials, fit and finish, etc. You don't really see a dramatic improvment in quality until you step into the upper echelon of RV brands and even then, they are far from perfect.

As for the 5.9 Cummins, we also installed the Banks System which pulls the 5 of us and our toad with no problems including the steep grades (we live in Colorado). Of course, you're not going to win any races going uphill but I am able maintain a decent speed (55ish) without having to ram my foot to the floor.

Ultimately, the Cross Country is more than a capable unit. If money is no object, then go for the whole enchilada. But remember, there are high costs associated with owning and maintaining an RV. And although I would love to spend $300K+ on a nice high end diesel pusher with all the bells and whistles, I still have 3 kids to raise and God willing, put through college. I'd rather allocate our resources to enjoying our time with them creating memories.

I have a 1998 38 foot Newmar Mountainaire with a front end engine 5.9 diesel and pull a 2004 GMC pickup, we just got back from a 8500 miles trip. Augusta GA to Jasper, Canada. Lot of mountains and no trouble, some time I was down to 30 MPH, but the biggest thing I got 14.9 MPG, now to get this I had a tail wind going North, tail wind going West and coming home a tail wind from the west, this does not happen very often. I like my 5.9 OH! I did put the Bank system on that 5.9 made a BIG difference, and more power, now have 95,000 miles on the unit, and will not trade, I'am keeping this one.

How true.

I have owned a 2005 for three years. I have had no problems at all just normal preventive maintenance. I tow a honda Cr-v. When I went to Yellowstone last year I had no problems towing. They are a quality M/H. Cummins 5.9 great little engine.
