CoachNet changes??

I have had ERS for over 25 years, I started with Good Sam and it was alright. Used it once. Switched to CoachNet through FMCA a few years later. I have used it maybe 3 times. One was a tow in Mexico that cost over $400. It was covered. I have had zero complaints with the service. BUT: Things have changed. FMCA dropped Coach Net. Coach Net modified and renamed their plans to where it is like buying aluminum siding. Almost a scam. I always had the Platinum plus which has very good coverage. It is pricey at $129.50. They will renew at that price. But if you go online and look at the offered plans they show a Ltd.,Basic and Premium. The Basic looks like the Platinum Plus but it is only $89.00??? What gives? Who's on first? Very Confusing. I am almost tempted to switch over to GS but worry the service will not be the same.

Coach net left us hanging and refused to pay for service call or a tow when we ran over a retread in the road. It wrapped around our genny exhaust and bent it so it was rubbing on the road. Still no explanation why. I have since dropped them and gone to GS. We'll see how that goes.

I'm pretty sure no roadside assistance would be out to help you for bent generator exhaust and pay for it.

I'll beg to differ with that. GS plan does not have any restrictions like that. Heck they even cover any other vehicle I happen to be riding in. They covered a mechanic to come to my then house for bad batteries. I was just out of hospital and couldn't put the new batteries in myself, but I had to move the MH for some other repairs.

Batteries effect the running of the vehicle, no? Does the generator exhaust?

It's like calling them to say your microwave isn't working. They MIGHT send a tech out to look at it, but it certainly won't be on their dime because it does not effect the operation of the vehicle or cause it to be inoperable.

The generator was wedged under the motor home. It also broke an air line. The compressor could keep up with the leak but you can't drive with an exhaust pipe dragging on the ground. They couldn't even find someone to respond (on my dime) in less than 2 hours. I found one on google who came out in 30 minutes with a saws all and removed the pipe so I could be on my way. I can't believe they would not help in this situation.

"Ran over a retread and damaged an air line" is an awful lot different than "Ran over a retread and bent my generator exhaust". Did you neglect to mention that to them, much like you neglected to mention that in your first post here? Regardless of how the damage occurred, if it was just the bent generator pipe dragging, I wouldn't expect a roadside assistance to help you and pay for it because it absolutely does not disable the motorhome in the least. You get that thing cut, like you did, and move on.
  • Ok, so here's what I see as different. There is the Premere coach plan 159.00 - basic 89.00 - limited 69.00. I could be wrong but what I've paid for in the past was 89.00 when we bought our MH. It was the same as the basic price but was the Premere plan. Last year we bought the Premere plan but was given a discount to 89.00.

They discontinued covering all your vehicles, spouse and kids on the basic for 89.00. You now have to buy the premiere to get that coverage. There are a few other things that wouldn't matter to us on the Premere except maybe for the Global coverage, but good luck with that one.

So if this is the case I too will be looking elsewhere when renewal comes up. Almost double in cost just to cover all your vehicles from what we paid before.
  • I wrote them and got a n answer to some other question. They avoided any explanations. I have googled to see if there are any other service providers but it is a joke. Other than your own insurance company the rest are hopeless.

"Retread"? You put retreads on your motorhome? Tell me I didn't read that right.

LOL no I wouldn't do that. An 18 wheeler threw one in front of me. It wrapped around the generator exhaust pipe and bent it enough that my front tire ran over it. It then hung on and was scraping on the road causing a heck of a lot of noise and probably sparks. I did not feel safe going down the road that way. I heard the air leak when I shut the coach down but it wasn't so bad that it showed up on my gauge on the inst. panel. The retread stuck a little farther aft on the port side but I got that off. I just needed a hack saw. Cost 125 for the road service that I found myself and I now have a brand new hack saw in the cargo bay. Lesson learned 2 ways, coach net sucks and you always need the tool that you don't have!
  • GMERT: Whew! Now I feel better. It is funny about different experiences with the same company. Mine...with Coach-Net has always been positive.
    See you on the road!
