Way back when I had convertibles I made the mistake of locking the car....bad move. Once the top was repaired I never locked it again but also never left anything in the car I wanted very badly.
Someone breaking into a MH bay while you're traveling??? Personally never heard of that happening. Occasionally someone has problem while in storage but even that is uncommon. That would be next to impossible to prevent anyway as a determined thief can get into anything.
Me, I lock the bays and, if anything happens, will let the insurance company handle it.
