That said, once kids moved away, we are camping in luxury cabover camper.
Love the 320 HP in the truck while still making over 10 mpg beating Sacramento traffic.
Wife and I were just wondering....why do so many people get a LARGER rig AFTER the kids are all gone? We have a 35' class A and have three kids. the rig would seem so much bigger if I could just kick the kids out! We just spent 14 days in it. We saw a bunch of class C's on the Mercedes diesel or Sprinter platform. Getting probably 18 MPG.
I wonder if the attraction of better gas mileage will have seniors down sizing?
I see RV as a tool for the job.
You can do different job and even the same job can be done with different tools, that offer different efficiency.
Our vintage Prevost doesn't sell, so I might go back to using 15 tons beast if I succeed to retire.
Point is that at this time our camper does not generate any legal cost and sits right at the house, ready to load on the pickup (takes me 3 minutes) and as I mention, having powerful pickup I can beat over 90% of cars getting to our favorite camping spots.
We did own TT for about 3 seasons. That was the time we had great season boating and waterskiing.
TT and the boat were in the storage 1/2 mile from the lake and we made quick trips there in SUV, carrying family and supplies.
I am technical guy and trying not to fall for snobbery, so I don't consider driving DP a symbol status.
But taking family of 5 while wanting some toys with you, DP (bus conversion) with huge cargo capacity is unbeatable.
All depends what you want and what you can afford.
What I figure out, I don't want new, fancy and affordable RV that sacrifice safety for luxury.
Accidents in Class A don't happen very often, but I've seen too many of cheaper A where after accident the ceiling was 6 inches above the floor.
Never wanted to find what happen to passengers.
