COMPLETE rewiring

Hi
Nobody has done this-
I have my 1988 toy. MH down to the frame. I can re-store everything but the wiring.
I need someone who has knowledge of how to connect the inverter, converter, to the batteries, and do all the connections for the lights, marker lights, EVERYTHING.

Anyone out there that knows someone who is an expert who can do this?
Thanks,
  • Hi,

Since you are in a class C, try to find a replacement wiring harness. A total rewire is going to be difficult and expensive.
  • See if you can find somebody to give you schematics for a similar rigs and use them as a guide. There are some soft cover generic RV maintenance books that may have helpful schematics and block diagrams. Selecting the proper guages of wire, connectors, splices, heat shrink tubing and 12 volt DC and 120volt AC power panels, hardware and electro-mechanical devices will be a large part of the process. Securing wire/cables and protecting wire from abrasion and shorts and connections from corrosion, are important. Getting advice from others that have refurbished and modernized old rigs should help. It may be possible to locate OEM schematics especially if your "toy's manufacturer is still in business. Did you take pictures and make notes while tearing the rig apart?

PS: Wherever practical, soldering is preferable to crimp-type connections which may come apart or corrode causing poor connection problems over time.
  • A good reference for you would be 12 volt side of life parts 1 and 2 by Mark Nemeth.
Mark is a former engineer/fulltimer who is on the Escapees RV Club staff and instructs parts of the Escapees Boot Camp for Rvers.
  • I found a guy in my area that owns a mobile RV Service. He once owned a sticks and bricks RV Repair facility but sold the property and put the money in the bank and bought a service truck and makes house calls. This might be a good local google search for you
