What others do has nothing to do with your original question which was "Is it a bad idea to turn a refrigerator on and off that often?". The only correct answer to that question is no. There are many variants to how and how often you use your RV but no matter how, when or where you use your RV, turning the power off to a household fridge will not shorten the longevity of your fridge. It turns itself on and off all of the time.
