Your right... many will disagree. Steering assist on a 20,000 lb drive axle... that would be a neat trick. A 42' tag axle MH will have a better turning radius than a 40' MH. The wheel base to the drive axle is shorter for the 42'. In 11 years of travel with my 42' I've only once had to make three left turns when I could not make a tight right turn. I go into shopping centers, small gas stations, use city streets and have never considered only using truck routes. Your mileage may vary.
Yes, in some CGs I've had to do a two point turn where you turn too late to make the turn and then you back up a few feet so you can make the turn.
PS, I can backup without unhooking although in most CGs I've already unhooked.
