Covered is better than nothing. Inside is best. When you are under a carport, the sun will still find it's way to hit the RV somewhere but is protected from the direct sun in the heat of the day.
A carport covered unit will still get very dusty and dirty. Also, you are still not protected from someone bumping into your coach or vandalizing it (depending on how the lot is set-up).
I rent two indoor storage spaces in two different cities year round. One is a full enclosed garage in a RV garage complex of about 100 individual garages (not climate controlled). The other is a HUGE storage building where we are open to each other but the facility personnel will park your coach (they will let you park your own too). I park my own with them helping me. No one but me will will drive our bus unless it's a Prevost service center.
The big enclosed building has partial climate control as it's heated in the winter and has air-flow in the summer months. But, it still has a little less protection as there is a small risk of damage but there are security camera's through-out the building and I have a 50 amp plug-in.
The storage garage that I have rented has a 30 amp plug (almost 10 years now). Even though I rent this garage all summer, I don't use it during the heat of the summer (110-120 degrees at times). I can only run one air unit which is not sufficient in a 45 ft. coach and I'm traveling out of the desert in the summer anyway.
Rent a garage if you can.
Safe travels,
MM.
