In October, we’re renting a Cruise America large RV which I think is a Four Winds 28A. I noticed that they allow towing up to 2500 pounds. However, these RVs are rated for 5000 pounds, right?
Most likely the hitch is rated for 5000 pounds, possibly as much as 7500 pounds. Obviously the rental agreement takes priority over whatever the technical limitations of the chassis are when it is more restrictive. For towing a trailer, the tongue weight (and resulting weight on the rear axle) must be considered besides just the hitch rating; for towing a car on a dolly or four wheels down, that's not really a concern as the tongue weight is negligible.
