Cummins engine dies and then !!!

My 'gas' pedal is simply a flat piece of plastic and metal mounted on an assembly on the floor. There is a sensor that varies resistance or voltage depending how hard the pedal is depressed.

I believe on mine the sensor part can be replaced without replacing the entire pedal assembly. I also believe that mine is a fairly standard part that is readily available in most cities of any real size.
