Cummins Onan Generator

I bought my 2023 Thor RV in February and my 3.2 HDZAA generator worked for 2 hours.  The generator has 22 hours total on it.  I got it to our Houston Cummins repair shop and it is still under a major parts warranty.  They contacted me on Friday and told me that it’s a fuel pump and injector and that it is not covered as a major part….however, replacing those parts are more expensive than getting a new $8000.00 generator..but they are not major.  I’m really upset at the entire situation with Cummins and don’t see why i would pay $8000.00 plus install for a generator that may only last 20 hours.  I doubt I’ll ever deal with Cummins again and I’m not sure I’d advise anyone else to put one in their RV.  They do NOT support their product.  Read the fine print. Find another generator.

  • It’s unfortunate that sooo many shops take such advantage.
didn’t realize it’s a diesel generator til now. Yikes. Must be in a diesel sprinter chassis guessing.
But more complicated and expensive but same thing. Search for another shop.

Agree with that way2roll.  I’ll post final expense and what happened once i figure it all out.  Appreciate your advice.  Twice now!

  •  Rather than a dramatic rant about it just take it to another shop. It’s a small engine.

I’m definitely taking it to another shop Grit_dog.  Also going to log the experience so hopefully some other owners don’t go through the same issues.  RV’s are challenging and these online groups are great.  Actually creating a site for this one that i can link to different user groups.  It’s a Cummins official shop so that may be the issue. Only took it there because of the warranty…anyway.  Going to be a fun ride and another learning experience!!
