Cummins Service??

Had my Itasca Horizon 40KD overheat traveling from Phoenix to Flagstaff on I-17 as the route has several long upgrades. I brought the MH to Cummins for service figuring they could diagnose and fix the problem. They diagnosed the problem to be a plugged radiator, but they said they didn't work on radiators including flushing them, they only work on the engines. This a Cummins in Las Vegas. Here I thought the cooling system was part of the engine, I guess that what I get for thinking! I have now taken the MH to Frightliner and they are going to fix the problem. I now will not take my MH ever to Cummins only to Freightliner, who I have always had good service with. Yes, Cummins charged me over 3 bills for that info. Lesson learned!

  • Wow... I can't believe they didn't help you better. Big deal, radiators are simple.
  • Our experience last summer with two Cummins Coach Care Centers and another shop that works on Cummins was less than stellar. I am very disillusioned with Cummins shops. What was a plugged second in-line filter that Cummins should've known about and didn't resulted in thousands of dollars of diagnostic time and hours and hours of us being held up while they tried to find the problem but didn't. I found out what to look for on this forum, which turned into a $15.00 part that we bought and DH installed. Even after I tried to tell the Coach Care center about it, they claim we didn't have a second filter. Of course, the first fuel filter had been changed several times throughout our trip as that seems to be the first thing they do. After I called Freightliner and was told where the in-line filter was located and that Cummins should've known about it as they are the ones who made Freightliner install it, were we able to take it into our own hands. I have no faith in a Cummins shop.
  • That is interesting. It is true that while your engine is Cummins, Freightliner built the chassis. In your case, your best bet is to find Freightliner Oasis service centers. I now have my first coach with a Cummins engine and I plan to use the local Cummins Coach Care Center for my service whenever I can. I would expect a Cummins Coach Care center to deal with most anything related to the chassis. They would pull the radiator and send it to a radiator shop for cleaning.
