D-Day, June 6,

Lest we not forget the brace soldiers, sailors, coast guard, navy, and
air force who made the landing at Normandy, France. They were
truly the "Greatest Generation" and their deeds should never be
forgotten. God Bless them all!
  • I am English and my father was in the navy and was part of the Normandy invasion. Thankfully, he was a signalman on the ship and never had to go ashore. My grandfather was a World War I ace pilot. He received the highest medal awarded for the dogfights in the skies over France. I am from Manchester and remember a lot of the stories my mother would tell me. All the neighborhoods had air raid shelters at the end of the street. The sirens would go off and they could hear the engines of the German planes. My mother and her sister would be screaming at my grandmother to please hurry. My grandmother refused to leave the house without putting on her girdle. I remember playing in the vacant lot across the street from our house. A house used to be there but a bomb landed on it and the whole family killed. Is hard to imagine the stress and horrors that this generation went through. We should be very thankful to all the soldiers that took part in World War II. We will never forget them.
