Damon Challenger 2010 drivers seat fabric shrewdding

Has anyone experienced the leathereet material on the captains chairs
shrewdding apart. Mine are on a 2010 damon challenger and i only have 19,000 on it. I have no pets to damage them just driving in my seat for 4 years and the material is just falling apart.
Flexsteel says its the material that Damon/Thor provided them with in making the seats. Damon/Thor says they would send me new material to cover the seats for 550 dollars.
I feel that any seat material shouldn't fall apart that soon.

  • We bought a Georgie Boy Landau new in July 2007. By the end of 2009, the outer surface of the two captains chairs was flaking off. Georgie Boy (Coachmen) said to take it up with Flexsteel as it was out of warranty (I understand that position entirely.) Flexsteel "had never heard of this problem before" but was willing to sell us new covers at about $300 each. Multiple contacts with proof of many other owners having the same issue had no effect.

The recliner, made by a different company but with color matched vinyl and a synthetic leather, still looks brand new.

I know that Flexsteel does not care, but I nor anyone I have influence with, will ever buy a Flexsteel product.

where do u get replacement covers?

Contact Flexsteel RV seating 563-556-7730. You will need the tags off your present seats( attached to the springs under the seat )
  • Many years ago I purchased from a private seller a class A. He had installed, in both pilot/co-pilot seats, an unusual item.

They were seat covers that had several hundred marble-size wooden balls that were tightly connected together with flexible plastic or metallic cord of some kind. These covers fitted well over the entire seat and backrest.

It was the MOST comfortable seating we had ever experienced in a motor home!

Plus, it kept our rumps and backs off of the original seat covering material thereby keeping a layer of air between the seats and us.
Over several years there was no noticeable wear and tear in the original seat fabric.
  • There was a time when the leather coating name had been taken over and the material did what you are experiencing. Many people got caught in that period. I think the name was NuLeather. This is from the memory of an old guy.
  • We have a 2010 Hurricane, which we bought used. Within a couple of weeks, both captain chairs started 'shedding.' We are returning from Florida and each stop and getting in and out, brings on more shedding of this cheap fabric. Such a mess! Options sound expensive!
  • I have the same problem in our 09 HR Neptune. Bought it in June with 12K miles on it and the seats looked good. Took it across country and back and the drivers seat is peeling where my shoes hit it getting in and out. Passenger seat showing wear. All this on one 7K mile trip. Guess I will let it wear and later on have them reupholstered. What is a tan rag rug?
  • Had a 2009 Hurricane. Within about 18 months, the captains chairs looked like they were 5 years old. Put about 5000 miles a year unit. Was going to buy covers for them, as I recall, less than $100 a piece, but didn't go that route. Put "throws" over the backs and found tan rag rugs, folded in two and put on seats. Cheap material covering the original chairs.
  • Yep, I had a 2008 Damon Challenger that did the same thing. I was three months out of warranty when it started. Contacted Thor customer service and they told me they would SELL me new covers, other than that it was now MY problem they were no longer responsible.

Go over to IRV2.com on the Thor forum and do a search there are hundreds of posts on this very topic.
