I don't understand why it won't take refrigerant. Even if it had refrigerant it should take it and "overcharge". Maybe the valve is clogged.?. If it is contaminated with air and you service it the compressor will be damaged over time. It's not hard to work on a car/truck/van/rv AC system. But, it needs to be drawn down before you fill it again. Also, there may be a need for some PAG oil to be added. Depends..
