- jdavidsmiExplorerI have the wiring figured out, Switch works great, now all I need is the 8 pin connector.
- jdavidsmiExplorerOK I have traced the wires to the switch, and all 4 appear good. now I need to test the switch. there is not a number on the switch I can find.
My switch has 7 terminals on the back, I know this is hard to explain so bear with me. top of switch "has an elect sign like a s with a arrow head" has 2 terminals side by side, then 3 down the left side a blank space then a terminal and 2 more side by side on the "ON" bottom.
this issue is I have no idea what each terminal is for.
can any one help with a diagram of the terminals? - jdavidsmiExplorerI hope all I have to do is splice them. rained off and on all day here did not get much testing done, hope it's better tomorrow.
- D_E_BishopExplorerI think the easiest thing is to Google, Cummins/Onan Repair for your area. There are lots of online RV parts and supplies that might be able to order it for you and have it drop shipped to your home.
If there are only four wires cut two feet away, why replace the entire loom? Can't you just splice them back together? Use shrink wrap butt connectors for weather resistance.
Just my suggestion. - jdavidsmiExplorerTomorrow I tear into the wiring and start checking things out. any idea where I might find the 9 pin connector I will need to hook it back up?
- DSDP_DonExplorer"jdavidsmi"....They were cut because the previous owner most likely had an issue with the generator starting when it shouldn't from a dirty connector or faulty switch. I would guess they cut them to temporarily solve the issue, but never did the repair.
- jdavidsmiExplorerDSDP Don, yes the generator starts and runs great from the starter switch on the unit its self.
Just have to wonder why the wires were cut and not just unplugged if there is a wiring issue. - jdavidsmiExplorerWell I found the problem. as I said this motorhome is new to me, Someone somewhere alone the way cut the 4 wires from the dash to the Generator. I found the wires in the conduit about 2 ft. from the generator. next step will be check for continuity and its good start looking for voltage. by the way its a Onan micro Quite 3.6 KY. Then I will need to find a new plug and put it back together.
I found the operators manuals on line that was how I knew what to look for. - DSDP_DonExplorerIt should be an Onan generator. On the back side, near axle (hard to reach) you should see some connections. Make sure these are clean and tight. They get road water and debris splashed on them and cause your issue.
- TZScalesExplorerHave you checked the switch itself? Does the generator start by activating the switch on the unit? Sometimes, there is no continuity in the switch. This may be your problem.
