That depends on which Aqua-Hot model you have. On mine (400D) it cuts off space heating to favor water heating using both electric and diesel. I understand that on at least some larger models (which you probably have) it can do both at once, due to larger capacity.
The OP is probably at destination by now, but we find that a little space heater from Wal-Mart is a handy thing to carry in cold weather -- useful if other heat were to go out, but also just for spot heating the rear bath at shower time, etc.
You are correct for the 400 model. The OP has the 600 model which has no such restrictions when the Diesel Burner is on. But for your model series (400/450), you must have the Diesel burner ON for no interruption to the furnace heating system when the continuous Hot water demand is gone. Doug
