In your case a crime was committed, so of course the police were involved. In the OPs case no crime was committed. Completely different situation.

I called the police and they came right out and took a report. Also, I reported this to my insurance company and they did not raise my rates the following year. BTW--$23,000 in damages. Maybe I just have a good insurance company.

You are correct, I know nothing about you except your post here which is Lawyer up. Why? Nowhere here does the op say the dealer is giving him trouble about fixing it. People today love lawyers way too much.:) By the way, I did read the post.

Let the dealer handle it from beginning to end. Only inform them that they will have to let you inspect it at each key stage (tear down, structure repairs, re-skin, etc) to verify competent repair.

If you make them pay for repairs at another facility, should a problem arise, they would inform you to contact the repair facility and wash their hands of any future liability. If they were the POC for all of the work, then THEY would have to get any future repairs done for you.

Get it in writing that these repairs are covered by them against faulty workmanship for life.

Beyond that, do not ever take delivery of the coach (no matter what) in the event you do not agree with the work. Once you've left the shop, your likelihood of successfully lobbying for rework goes down significantly.

If you have a trip coming up, I would inform them of the trip, show them any reservation receipts and inform them that they would be responsible for either ensuring the repairs are competently done prior to that date or they will need to provide you with a rental.

The Police will not give you a report. It isn't criminal. And the vehicle wasn't moving, so no accident report either.

I would surely NOT inform my own insurance company. Our AARP Hartford insurance documents inquiries and raises rates accordingly even though a claim is NOT filed. They told us our home owner insurance increased because we asked if a downed-tree would be covered. I took care of the tree myself. I was furious, but in the end kept them after shopping around didn't yield enough benefit.....YET! They are crooks over there at Hartford for AARP members.

I agree with this, had exactly the same thing happen. But not all insurance companies operate this way.
