Decent RV in /near Durango ?

Would appreciate recommendations for decent RV park in or near Durango. Nothing fancy needed..just reasonable security, big rig and pet friendly and clean. If they accept any of the discount club cards, that would be better ! Thanks.

  • Another vote for United, nice view, and the steam train runs right through the park. And if you want to ride the train, the shuttle bus stops at the RV park and will take you into town to the train station, so you don't have to hassel finding parking.

  • We have stayed at Lightner Creek several times. Clean and quite. The park is over 30 years old, but well maintained. Some sites are not as level as I would like, but considering its location I guess that is to be expected.
  • Depends on what you're looking for and your tastes...there's a nice full hookup campground at the Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio $30/night. It's clean and easy to access. Spaces are ample and mostly level. There's a KOA right outside town, but it's down in a hole and while we've not stayed there, it seems to be overpriced. We also have stayed at the Bayfield Riverside Park. A little way out of town but very nice and big rig friendly. IMHO, the nicest park is the one just north of town, United Campground of Durango. Big rig friendly and you can watch the steam engine from your front window. Twice a day it chugs right through the center of the campground. The shuttle also stops by that campground. It will take you into Durango for a buck!.We did not like Alpen Rose as the back sites are too small for a big rig and the big rig sites are too close to the highway and not as scenic...enjoy the trip..Listed below in order of preference...YMMV.....Dennis

  • Approx 15 miles NE is valeceto Lake and Blue Spruce RV park......very beautiful and close to the lake.We have stayed 2 months there......On the other side of the lake are campgrounds but I wouldn't in a big rig.
