I just came from Golden Shore RV Resort in Long Beach California and most sites can accommodate a 45 foot coach and a small car. The sites are barely 37 feet long so a 45 foot coach will extend 8 feet into the grassy area behind the site, but in virtually no case will your car fit in front of your coach unless your coach is 25 feet or so.
I agree with what you're saying and yes overhang does have it's advantages and why one usually fits in what's listed as a smaller site. However we were able to park our toad in front (just barely) while at Golden Shores and there were some big rigs in there, including a Prevost or two that might have had to park their toad elsewhere. Believe it or not, that park even has overflow parking for a couple of RV's when they're full. I really liked the place for the surrounding area along the water and especially for it's bike paths. We even did the Queen Mary tour and with the Catalina Express docking nearby the park, it made for a real nice setting. I hadn't been in LB since my Navy days and hardly recognized a thing anywhere, especially up on Ocean Blvd.
