My apologies, I assumed that you were a city utility employee. Some of my siblings have city pensions working in law enforcement.
I, too, saved. My Dad said save half of what you make, I didn't start off with half but did pretty good but ALWAYS saved and invested.
You deserved a tip, your work was dangerous and outdoors!
